Congressman Van Hollen Issues Statement Against Bahraini Regime

Washington December 22nd, 2011 – In late October, UMAA held a National Advocacy Day dedicated to addressing the egregious human rights violations that have been taking place in Bahrain. Concerned constituents from across the United States came in to meet with their congressional leaders to voice their concerns. Congressional meetings took place with the offices of Congressman John Conyers (D-MI), Congressman Rush Holt (D-NJ), Congresswoman Donna Edwards (D-MD) and Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD).

Three of those congressional offices have now cosponsored House Joint Resolution 80 to limit the proposed $53 million arms sale to the Bahraini regime. Furthermore, upon our request, Congressman Chris Van Hollen issued a firm statement against the Bahraini regime. The Universal Muslim Association of America thanks the Congressman for supporting the human dignity and rights of all disenfranchised Bahrainis.
