UMAA MATRIMONIAL SERVICES
“And one of his signs that He created matches for you from yourselves that you may find comfort in them, and He put between you love and compassion: most surely are signs in this people who reflect.” (30:21).
UMAA, three years ago, created and launched especially for the Shia Muslim young adults of North America, its Online Matrimonial Service to meet the growing demand of the concerned parents as well as offering opportunity to young men and women to find their life partners.
We at UMAA understand the problems of our families living in the West in finding matches for their sons and daughters. Whereas the traditional method has always been to find a spouse utilizing contacts of relatives, friends and the people they knew, there is a growing trend these days among the young adults as well as their parents to make the important choice of a life partner through information posted on the internet. It is, however, important to be careful while making use of the internet matrimonial services. We highly recommend that while making use of the internet, the Islamic guidelines are followed, both for faith and trust. It is suggested that the young singles registering on their own seek help from a “wali” (custodian) who could check and investigate the credentials of a suitor, before they proceed further. UMAA Online Matrimonial Service maintains complete confidentiality. Data is matched on the computer and the contact information is provided only with the consent of the registered members, after due scrutiny. However, UMAA does not offer any guarantees.
To check the credentials and the background information is the sole responsibility of the members registering for spousal search. This service is free for UMAA members, who can register online. An optional donation to UMAA is welcomed. Please remember that UMAA is your national organization committed to advance the social, political, and economic agenda for the Shia Muslims of North America.

Allah Subhanhu wa Ta’ala in numerous deliberations of The Holy Quran Praised The Prophet of Islam (P.B.U.H.) and his Holy Progeny. The exalted status of the Masoomeen has been repeatedly narrated in almost all Ahadees as the traditions of the Prophet and despite many pogroms against Ahl Ul-Bayt and their followers the world history continues to witness the resilience and revival of these devotees of the Prophet and His Progeny.
For the past 1,400 years the poets of all faiths have been inspired by the love of Ahl Ul-Bayt. For the first time after its 6 years of existence UMAA has decided to accord a National Stage to contemporary poets by organizing this literary event which will attract many North American as well as Internationally acclaimed poets of the Urdu as well as Arabic, Persian, English languages to this grand and graceful occasion.
Since the UMAA Convention is a gathering of those who love the Ahlul Bait of the Blessed Prophet (SAW), it cannot be deemed be complete without the praise of Allah Subanhu wa Ta’ala, the Prophet of Islam (P.B.U.H.), and his Holy Progeny.

PEACE BE UPON YOU: AN INTERFAITH DIALOGUE
The relevance of this subject matter in the contemporary times is such that it must be reviewed constantly to develop greater understanding amongst Abrahamic Faiths. Christians and Jews continue to suspect the sincerity of Muslims about and are unclear on the real definition of Islam. These other faiths at times appear to have little or no trust owing to the repeated acts of tyranny and terrorism on the part of those who commit heinous acts in the name of Islam. This session will be an opportunity to express our sentiments that such people have no moral right to call themselves “Muslims.” . Scholars from the three Arahamic faiths will be invited to examine the history of Muslim, Christian and Jewish coexistence throughout the course of modern history. |

Evolution of The North American Muslims
The Muslim immigrants of the Middle East, Africa and the Indian Subcontinent started arriving at the Western shores in the late 1960’s and then on. This influx did not stop even after 9/11 or 7/7. These people brought along a rich heritage and culture which the West welcomed with open arms. However, a few of these immigrants imported hard core doctrines laced with religious bigotry and discrimination. Islamic Centers and Mosques were established in a hurry at times with the assistance of the Wahhabi and Salafi regimes of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States. Also, the Imam trained in the so called Islamic brand of hatred and exclusion was imported to spread this venom. That is when the problem started and the rest is history. This panel will attempt to trace the history of Muslim immigration and their behavior in these Western societies. |

IT IS INTRAFAITH - FIRST !
The tragic outcome of the history pertaining to the Shia and Sunni divide has witnessed, throughout the course of history, many acts of persecution and even genocide. Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and Bahrain are the current examples of the persecution of Shias by the Wahabi/Salafi inspired groups whose intolerance not only encompasses the Shia, but most other Muslims as well. Fortunately in the United States, many initiatives continue to take place where the Shia and Sunni have shared not only their commonality, but also acknowledged that diversity opinion is the cornerstone of a rich intellectual discourse in Islam. This session will provide the impetus to generate further dialogue between the Sunni and Shia groups; this is an important dialogue which can radiate a positive impact in the American Muslim community at large. |

UMAA
Announces the Formation of
The Alliance of Young Professionals
A large number of Muslim immigrants started arriving at the Western shores in the late 1960’s and 70’s. After settling down, with their worldly duties, these immigrants established Mosques and Islamic Centers all across North America. They had families and their lot grew in many Muslim communities as their children having been born in this hemisphere became the first generation of citizens. These Muslim immigrants considered education as a top priority and they sent their children to elite schools. These young men and women grew up to become physicians, engineers, lawyers, academicians, accountants and entrepreneurs. As a result, these young professionals are very skilled in the marketplace and with this economic independence they are poised to contribute towards the communities they live in.
UMAA leadership recognizes the community of these young men and women and it is determined to reach out to them and engage them for an eventual succession. These young professionals are an extremely potent, peaceful and vibrant part of the North American Muslim community. This group will now become a stake holder in terms of advancing the agenda set forth by the founders of UMAA. We salute this generation of young professionals and ask them to become a part of UMAA which is an American Muslim movement.
During UMAA’s Sixth Annual Convention numerous sessions will be planned and organized by this group. On Sunday, May 25, 2008 a special get together for the Alliance of Young Professionals will take place at 9:00 PM in the Grand Ballroom. The primary object of this session will be to highlight the value of establishing professional networks in our community. It will demonstrate the value of networking and distinguishing the required steps in achieving the mission and communicate the long term vision of the alliance.

The Prophet of Islam: A Personality most Balanced
By Most Estimates, Islam is now the fastest growing religion in North America and in the rest of the West and yet 60% of Americans claim never to have met a Muslim. The reason for this contradiction is that Muslims seem to have failed in engaging with the wider society. Consequently, they have been unable to represent the faith in a manner that the messenger of Allah did so himself. This session will outline the pathways toward such engagement as on the life of the Blessed Prophet (SAW) presenting the image of true Islam and the proper and peaceful role of its adherents. |

Quran And Ahl Ul Bayt: The Prophet’s Legacy
The Prophet of Islam, (P.B.U.H.) in his numerous sermons deliberated, clearly, candidly and categorically that he is leaving the Ummah with two things: One is the Quran and the other is Ahl Ul Bayt. Some schools of thought in Islam interpreted that the Prophet meant Quran and Sunnah (traditions of the Prophet) while a few others claimed that the Prophet meant only the Quran as his legacy. This controversy has haunted the Muslim Ummah for the past 1,400 years and that this schism will never go away. The session will reinforce by sheer historical evidence and various traditions of the Prophet as the sanctity of this legacy! |

Khum-e-Ghadeer: The Will of Allah (s.w.t.)
History of Islam in its entirety has never witnessed a tradition (Hadith) of the Prophet (P.B.U.H.) which is preceded by a Quranic verse and after the narration of the Hadith, it is followed by another verse of the Quran. The Prophet of Islam returning from Hajj gathered almost 100,000 Hajjaj at a place called Ghadeer. Before the Prophet could address the Ummah the word of the Almighty came down, “O Messenger, make known that which hath been revealed unto thee from thy Lord thou do it not, thou will have convey his message. Allah will protect thee from Mankind.” After that the Prophet delivered his most famous sermon designating Ali Ibn Abu Talib as his successor. Then the word of the Lord came down again proclaiming, “This day are those who disbelieve and despair of ever harming your religion. So fear them not fear me. So this day have I perfected your religion. For you and completed my favor unto you and have chosen for you as religion Al-Islam.” Everyone including the companions of the Prophet congratulated Ali Ibn Abu Talib for his Wilaya. This glorious event has been documented in the books of various Islamic Schools of thought. |

Faith In Practice: Can Fiqh help us define a balance in our daily lives in America
Through the practice of Ijtehad, the practice of Jafari fiqh has always been characterized by dynamism and its relevance to the need of time. Far form being an ossified set of legal rulings, the discipline of fiqh engages the lives of Muslims both at personal as well as communal levels. With their growing presence in Europe and North America, will Muslims in the West, be able to find an expression of fiqh on the exigencies of their contemporary circumstances in a meaningful and applicable way? This session will attempt to address these issues. |

The American Crescent
This presentation, based on his recent book of the same name, is the first chronicle of Syed Hasan Qazwini’s inspiring journey from Karbala, Iraq, where he was born in 1964, to exile in Kuwait and Iran, to Dearborn, Michigan where he currently heads the Islamic Center of America, one of the largest, if not the largest mosque in America. Also, it is an exposition for Syed Qazwini’s experience of Shia Islam rooted in Iraq and Iran and adopted for America. This exposition is also a political statement for Muslim Americans to immerse themselves in the life of the U.S. while simultaneously retaining their Identity as Muslims. |

The Takfiri Cabal: Wahabi and Salafi Doctrines
The international Wahabi and Salafi cabal can claim total proprietorship in calling every other Muslim “Kafir” and “Najis.” In the name of Islam these groups have inflicted one act of atrocity after another at the Muslim Ummah and there is no end to it. Their so called brand of Islam is not only exclusionary, it is full of bigotry, hatred and discrimination. Islamic states such as Saudi Arabia and the countries of the Persian Gulf are the chief sponsors of this religious chicanery. The retaliation by the Western powers resulting from the tragedy of September 11th, 2001 and the bombings of the U.S. Embassies in East Africa, Madrid, London, Casablanca, Bali and other places have to some extent stymied these agents of death and destruction. Religious foundations from Saudi Arabia and Gulf States still have the abilities to finance the insurgents and suicidal bombers in Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Lebanon. Something must be done to stop these criminals from calling other Muslims “Kafir.”

ISLAMIC LEADERSHIP: It Is Time For Succession Planning!
A trait of a great leader lies in humility, sincerity and sagacity. An aloof and an autocratic person does not make a good leader. A leader must work with his people towards accomplishing mutually agreed goals. The Muslim leadership of North American organizations has more than often failed because the leaders assumed that their way is the only way. A lack of diversity in terms of age, gender and ethnicity playes a major role towards these failures. Also, an inept management style coupled with cronyism and other such ills have discouraged very talented individuals from joining the ranks of these selected few. This session will analyze in great depth the ways and means to create an Islamic organization, always striving to cultivate succession planning as well as grooming the young leaders.

NOT IN THE NAME OF ISLAM: The Root Causes Of Terrorism
When we look behind acts of terrorism that are perpetrated in the name of Islam through historical and political contexts, we see that the roots of terrorism lie in contemporary corrupt politics and fanatical ideologies, rather than in the pristine Islamic teachings. Practices associated with political oppression and ideological corruption terrorism as correlated with despotic political regimes and self-serving ideologies that we see today date back to the very early history of Islam, immediately after the death if the Blessed Prophet. The Shia have always borne the brunt of these atrocities, the supreme example was the brutal slaying of the grandson of the Blessed Prophet in Karbala. It is only now that the rest of the world, and especially the West has tasted this menace manifested through the Salafi and Wahabi doctrine which has made its bloody impact on the history of Islam. Osama bin Laden is the 21st Century manifestation of the same elements. The Wahabi brand of Islam is bent upon destroying every civilization in the name of Jihad with their warped vision of defending Islam and implementing a caliphate. Unless a sincere and bold strategy is devised by enlightened Muslims to combat the evil of terrorism, the so called ‘Clash of Civilizations’ may well become a self fulfilling prophecy. This panel discussion will highlight the dangers of complacency by the Muslims themselves and the dire need to expose and denounce openly this menace to the world at large.

Beyond The Burqa: Gender Balance
The Burqa effect is a state of mind neither unique, nor new. The veiled Muslim women has become overexposed. Intellectuals argue over how she should be described and who should save her. Yet, Sayyeda Zainab, the granddaughter of the Prophet and the daughter of Ali (as) and Fatima (as) provided the ultimate lesson of bravery, leadership. While according due importance to Hijab, it is important to move beyond the discussion of hijab when it comes to the role of women and leadership in contemporary society. After the tragedy of Karbala, Sayed Zainab led the campaign of bravery and devotion to the faith reminding the Ummah that the Muslim women is indeed an equal partner of the man in each and every struggle of life.

The Young And The Restless: Political Involvement And Community Participation
After landing on these Western shores, the Muslim immigrants from the Middle East, south Asia and Africa, secured themselves a foothold in their respective communities. They concentrated first and foremost on education and then they secured skills for placements in professional fields. They established families and the fruit of that effort were their children who were born as citizens of these lands. Now, these children are young men and women, brought up in sound Islamic traditions and values. They are well educated, skilled and well adjusted to operate within the wider society and now poised to be part of the larger American community. However, as a Community, the parents and leaders have been lackadaisical in encouraging this generation to be engaged within the Muslim Community. They must at once attend to this responsibility before it is too late. Our efforts to build a balanced Muslim community can never be complete unless these young adults are wholly involved of this endeavor.
This session will attempt to identify the terrain, opportunities and challenges and propose an agenda for fully optimizing the potential of this new generation |

Islamic Centers And Mosques: Management, Planning, Programming And Budgeting
There exist a large number of Mosques and Islamic Centers across North America. These places of Azadari and worship were established by the UMMAH to address their religious and spiritual needs. After the initial years of joy and glory the reality of financing and managing these places surfaced. Community management representatives were greatly challenged by deficits and infighting amongst themselves. Some of these representatives would like to share their experiences and they would like to learn from those who did not encounter these dilemmas.

DOLLARS AND SENSE: ACQUIRING WEALTH IN AN ISLAMIC WAY
The adherents of the faith must always follow the righteous path in terms of acquisition and retention of wealth and material things. Our Prophets and Imams lived in less than simple manners and they never longed for the material world. However, our Prophets and Imams never discouraged us from hard work, honesty, and the resulting rewards be that money or material. Also, these holy beings deliberated at numerous times that the life of an individual must be balanced, not tilted too much towards the religious rituals nor overly focused on worldly matters. Our presence in a non-Islamic environment presents all sorts of dilemmas which the members of Ummah must confront on a daily basis. Can even be involved a business in transactions relating to alcohol, gambling and the swine products? Where can a Muslim invest which is ethically and religiously acceptable? Is the giving and taking of interest all right within the confines of Islamic jurisprudence? These are some of the issues which this session will brainstorm about.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: UPHOLDING FAITH
AND SERVING FAMILIES
Muslim families are not much different from the families belonging to other faiths in terms of experiencing the menace known as domestic violence. Daily events of our life create difficulties and problems which are stressful enough to make our behavior improper and unacceptable. A violent behavior towards a spouse, a child, and other family members is unfortunately a reality of our daily life. Various Muslim American communities, nonprofits and volunteer organizations are coming forward to deal with the problems of domestic violence. This session will focus of the Islamic perspective pertaining to domestic violence, outline the problems and ways to deal with these problems. |

A NEED FOR A GLOBAL STRATEGY FOR SHIA MUSLIMS
Over one million Shias have been killed in the last 30 years. On a per capita basis, the frequency and number of violent crimes and terrorism against Shia Muslims is higher than other mainstream religious groups in the world. The current geo-political developments have shaped a distinct and differentiated Shia identity. Shia Muslims can either embrace this identify or disclaim it. To protect Shia lives and property, an attempt is being made through this workshop to awaken this minority Muslim community and make them realize that Shia Muslims need a globally coordinated strategy. The key aspects of this strategy will be to create a vibrant and powerful Shia Muslim identity, centralize and consolidate the articulation of Shia Islamic religious and political affairs from a holy site such as Najaf, and establish Shia lobbies in Western and Islamic capitals to advance the agenda of Ahl Ul-Bayt. |

Mayhem In Mesopotamia(
A special session on Iraq)
It all started in March 2003, when Iraq was liberated from the cruel claws of Saddam and his Baathist cronies. The process of nation building, after the ravages of war, was about to commence. The regimes of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt and the Gulf States did not think so. They saw a clear Shia victory in their endeared Mesopatamia. A bloody carnage ensued as Wahabi insurgents were injected in this bloody war which resulted in thousands of Iraqis being massacred. Finally, their vicious game came to an end as the U.S. military with its surge coupled with its collaboration with Iraqi Sunnis who decided to turn against Al-Qaeda and the Baathists, decapitated the foreign fighters as well as the local insurgents. The reconstruction is slowly taking shape and there are signs of the country attempting to rebuild. |

Allama Rasheed Turabi: An Icon And A Legend
No one in the sixty one year history of the Indo-Pakistan subcontinent was bestowed with the title of Khateeb-e-Pakistan other than the late intellectual, religious Scholar and master of Urdu oratory Allama Rasheed Turabi. Born and reared in the princely state of Hyderabad Deccan, Allama Sahib completed his education under the guidance of Nasir Ul Millat and Hojjat Ul Islam Syed Agha. Hyderabad Deccan, was the center of Persian and Urdu literature and education. Usmania University from which Alllama Sahib received his Baccalaureate Degree, claimed to have been the first university in greater India where Urdu was the medium of instruction and learning.
Allama Sahib soon made his mark in the pre partitioned India as a young orator and when the split of the subcontinent took place in 1947, he migrated to Pakistan with his family. He made Karachi his home as the young nation struggled to achieve its place in history. Pakistan did not have many established institutions of education and learning, however, the young nation started getting a good footing as numerous Muslim experts and intellectuals started migrating to their new homeland.
Allama Sahib mystified his audience as Muslims of all sects were attracted to his mastery of rhetoric and his command of the subject matter whether reciting lectures or describing the virtues of Ahl Ul-Bayt and the tragic martyrdom, the Holy Beings encountered at the hands of fellow Muslims. He consistently experimented and brought a new vigor to the institution of oratory. Allama Sahib was not only gifted with a photogenic memory, his baritone voice quality powered every aspect of his delivery as well. He never stopped proclaiming both in text and in tone the significance of Hussaineyat and its ultimate victory for Islam. He would scream, whisper when appropriate, cry, and yet control the crowds as he wished.
The pulpit (mimber) was his nest and once he sat on it, the delivery began and the audience roared as he controlled their psyche and their emotions. He would turn, twist and tremble, while describing the tragic events relating to Kufa, Karbala, Damascus, and Medina. The martyrdom of the Prophet (PBUH) and his progeny and its impact on the 1,400 years of Islamic history was illustrated in the most comprehensive and convincing manner by no one other than Allama Rasheed Turabi.
The man had a monumental mission and he never ran short of accomplishing any part of it. Raja Sahib Mahmoodabad, Agha Mehdi Poya, Sheikh Mohammed Shariati, Sheikh Mohammed Mahalati, Joash Maleehabadi, Niaz Fatehpoori, Abul Aala Moudidi, Ehtesham Ul Haq Thanvi, Abdul Hamid Badayyooni, Qamar Jalalavi, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Hashim Raza, Jamiluddin Aali, Z. H. Bukhari and Raees Amrohavi, were a few of the t the intellectuals and scholars who sought Allama’s company. He would entertain them, humor them, and yet be the foremost intellectual force he was in his numerous deliberations.
The man never stopped until his health failed him and at the age of 65 he passed away. The legacy of Allama Rasheed Turabi is cherished by millions of people hailing from the subcontinent of India and Pakistan as well as the Urdu speaking communities of Africa, the Middle East, Europe and North America.
The Universal Muslim Association of America, in recognition of the immense and unprecedented contribution made by this champion of the cause of Ahl Ul-Bayt, pays homage to this great hero, by designating a series of lectures in the memory of Allama Rasheed Turabi’s 100th birthday. May Allah (swt) bless the soul of this great icon and this everlasting legend.

AZADARI: A MEDIUM AS POWERFUL AS THE MESSAGE
The Prophet of Islam, (P.B.U.H.) was the first and foremost Azadar of all times as he used to regularly visit the grave of his uncle Humza and cry for his martyrdom at the battle of Uhad. After the death of the Prophet of Islam, Sayyeda Fatima Zehara (ASW) the beloved daughter of the Prophet and the Lady of Light, never stopped mourning for her father. After the tragedy of Karbala the Azadari became a formidable institution in Shia Islam. Majlis and Matam in any form or manner has become an integral part of Shia life and it is here to stay. This session will address all aspects of Azadari and it will outline the history of this institution during the past 1,400 years as well as it evolution in the contemporary times. |

Impact of Language in balancing a culture
Literature, they say, is the conscience of a nation. Not only does it mirror finer essence of a people but also denotes their intimate responses to the everyday challenges of life. Nowhere is the cultural ethos of a community more faithfully represented in literature than in poetry. In particular, Urdu poetry is a classic case of the representation of such an ethos for the the Muslims of the subcontinent, whether is Nowgawanm, Narowal or New York. This session will be a primer for those unacquainted with the beauty Urdu and an introduction to the Mehfile Maqasida the literary event which has attracted many North American as well as Internationally acclaimed poets of the Urdu as well as Arabic, Persian, English languages and will be the Grand finale of the Convention. |

HEALTH IS WEALTH: PREVENTION IS THE MOTHER OF ALL TREATMENTS
Our religion is quite detailed and descriptive on the subjects of health and hygiene. We are what we eat and drink! The entire concept of Halal and Haram is based upon scientifically proven theories. According to the Quran alcohol is considered the mother of all evils and swine meat is most unacceptable. An edible animal meat which is not slaughtered is not Halal and thus not permissible. The environment we live in must be clean and smoke free. Public health education and promotion are the hallmarks of good personal health and hygiene. Western societies have dedicated an insurmountable amount of time and money towards medical research and they have made significant inroads. However, a balanced diet, moderate amount of exercise and clean smoke free environment can easily promote healthy life and longevity. The three physicians involved in this workshop will advise the audience about the fundamentals of good family health.

The Marriage Contract: Educating, Defining And Exploring The Options For Muslim Women
The institution of marriage and its sanctity has been promulgated, promoted and preserved since the time of Adam and Eve. The sacred matrimonial bond between a man and a woman has met all sorts of tests and tribulations during the course of human history. Although the tradition of marriage has been challenged and chastised for different reasons the institution itself never lost its credibility or its credentials. Even though man and woman are created equal in the eyes of Allah (s.w.t.), the so called male chauvinistic mind set attempted at times to dominate the female partner. The example of the exalted women of Ahl Ul Bayt has been the most potent and powerful precedent for the women of contemporary times to follow. This panel will not only examine the historical treatment of Muslim women, it will explore and analyze the realities of this relationship. |

European Shia Muslims: Challenges & Contributions
Even though all Muslims are not terrorists, a preponderance of evidence suggests that during the past two decades almost all acts of terror and tyranny were committed by Muslims. The followers of Ahl Ul Bayt, simply because of their traditions of tolerance and peace refused to accompany those who harbor the dreams of death and destruction. European nations namely England, France, Germany, Spain and Holland have encountered bloodshed and other evils of extremism. Shia Muslims in Europe on the other hand have played a significant role in bringing Muslim and non-Muslim communities together promoting harmony and brotherhood. Not a single follower of Ahl Ul Bayt was found to be involved in the episodes involving terror and bloodshed. This panel comprised of European Shia Muslims will enlighten the audience with their experiences.

Engaging the Media – Fair and Balanced
As a result of the 1965 immigration legislation number of Muslims swelled in North America and a precipitous rise took place in activities pertaining to the politics of Islam and Islamic affairs.. They seemed to have well integrated into Western societies then came the most catastrophic thunder of September 11, 2001 Osama bin Laden and his compatriots suddenly became household names. “All Muslims are not terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslims,” became the slogan of the day. Islamophobia, a misnomer was actually a Muslim phobia. Unfortunately, the Non-Muslims found the fault with the religion of Islam and not its disciples.
How can Muslims make their voices heard against the constant barrage of negative portrayal in the media? What responsibility must they assume in countering manufactured fear with a essage of mutual understanding and trust? This session will explore practical ways for Muslims to empower themselves in an often-hostile media environment. |

UMAA Serving Ummah: In Search Of A Balanced Community
During the autumn of 2002 Shia Muslims of North America founded the Universal Muslim Association of America (UMAA). The mission of this organization is to advance the economic, political and religious agenda of the Shia Muslims of North America. That vision is now a total reality. This nascent entity has established itself as a peaceful and vibrant Shia national organization determined to promote relationships and dialogue with people of other faiths. UMAA, during the past six years of its existence has gained substantial credentials and credibility with the U.S. government (both legislative and executive branches), national and international print/broadcast media, Western academia and the public at large. UMAA recognizes that the time is now to reach out to its younger members of the Community and engage them towards accomplishment of the organizations overall mission. The young adult community of Shia American Muslims is prepared as well to assume the responsibility. The first generation American Muslims must carve out an agenda which will enable them to assimilate in the society they live in but at the same time they maintain their distinct identify as well as their faith. This is a rather tall and cumbersome agenda, however, if it can be imagined, it can be done! This panel discussion will challenge both the immigrant parents and their children who are now young adults to accept responsibility. |
