For Immediate Release

The escalating situation in Iraq and the possibility of invasion of Imam Ali's Shrine in Najaf is of great concern to all Muslims, particularly the Shias

Imam Ali's Shrine in Najaf is one of the holiest places in the Muslim World. The holy shrine has over 1000 years history as a great Muslim seminary and seat of learning.

We urge both sides to show restraint and prevent the assault on the holy city and the lives of its inhabitants.

We call upon all parties concerned to seek a negotiated settlement to the conflict, and bring an immediate end to all hostilities.
