UMAA'S ROLE IN SHAPING THE SHIA COMMUNITY'S FAMILY LIVES
UMAA being a unique national organization dedicated to empowering Shia Muslims in North America, is also the most appropriate organization for providing a platform for meeting the dire matrimonial need sof Shia Muslim men and women of North America. UMAA understands that family life is the cornerstone of a successful community.

UMAA Matrimonial Services has undertaken the mission to meet a very important need. The need of preserving Islamic teachings, as taught by the Ahlul Bayt, in future generations by providing an Islamic "match making" service. It should be noted that UMAA Matrimonial Services does not call it "Match- Making" because it considers that Match Making is done by Allah (SWT) and we serve to simply facilitate introductions.

HOW UMAA MATRIMONIAL SERVICES WORKS UMAA
Matrimonial Services offers the following two types of services:

  1. UMAA Online services:
In this candidates get to know each other via UMAA Website. UMAA makes an attempt to screen authenticity of profiles prior to granting access to use this service. However, there is no way to guarantee a fool-proof system. This is UMAA's self-serve type service.

  2. UMAA-Designated Point of Contact's (POC) personalized Service:
    The POCs essential responsibilities include:
    a) Maintaining confidentiality of candidates' personal information

    b) Facilitating "arranged Introduction" of parents' and candidates'-identified compatible and prospective candidates with their counterparts based upon their high-priority selection criteria. Of course, introductions are arranged with both parties' consent to exchange pertinent information about each other and families. Based upon parents' experience and intense love for their children's well being and Islam's teaching to respect the would-be bride and groom's choice, initial parent-to parent introduction followed by candidate-to-candidate introduction is preferred. This method of introduction opens the channel of communication with only seemingly matching and interested candidates.

    c) Arranging separate Singles and Parents events at the UMAA Conventions in Islamic and youth-friendly setting. This once-a-year unique opportunity to meet Shia families throughout USA and Canada under one roof is a life-changing experience for many singles. The participation of an increasing number of both male and female candidates and parents every year is the testimony of popularity and fruitfulness of these events.

By the grace of Allah, the efforts are bearing fruits and many families have benefitted from this service. To optimize the benefits of this service UMAA Matrimonial Services strongly advises its users to keep their profiles updated, refrain from over restrictive selection criteria, be active as a parent-candidate team in spouse search and most importantly remember the teachings of our holy Ahlul Bayt (AS) throughout the entire process.
